January 2008, a team of students with their background in medicine, decide to participate in the Techfest at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. They call themselves Anaemedia & plan to eradicate anaemia using a prick-less battery operated device, ToucHb.
Our first prototype was packaged in a huge lunch box. We got the second prize and a decent amount that was reinvested to improve our device. We kept participating in various competitive events that also helped us in presenting an improved version every time. In June 2008, Anaemedia along with Aravind Eye Care was awarded the Piramal Prize 2008 by Piramal Foundation and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The award is conferred to encourage innovative ideas that democratize healthcare in India. That is when Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, IIM-Ahmedabad, awarded us with an incubation. Since December 2008, we have identified ourselves as Biosense Technologies Private Limited. For more than 2 years, we have primarily focused on improving our technology and with the recent bench trials we are getting positive signals towards field trials. The dictum that there is always scope for improvement coupled with a belief that no matter what, we will continue pursuing it to make that difference! is something that keeps us driving. |
